Residential Retrofits, York
This project is the initial stage of an energy efficient retrofit programme, comprising 20 houses and apartments in the Historic Core Conservation Area of York, 15 of which are Grade I, II* and II listed buildings and 3 of which are in ‘buildings of merit’.
The properties, dating from 1500 to 2012, include timber frame construction with jetties, Georgian and Victorian townhouses and shop-houses, courtyard cottages and houses, and a former almshouse.
I acted as Retrofit Coordinator, visiting all properties with the Retrofit Assessor to consider which improvements might be suitable. Once in receipt of the full survey details, I modelled the improvement options and produced a detailed report for each property so the client could understand the recommendations and the specific considerations arising from the heritage significance of each one.
