Residential Retrofit in Former Factory, Powys
This Grade II listed property in Wales started out as a linen factory and is believed to have been one of the first mail order businesses. It was converted to residential use at the start of the 20th century, but retains much of its historic fabric, including the windows, doors and signage.
Although the house was extensively refurbished at that time and benefitted from sheepswool insulation to the walls and roof, and secondary glazing to the windows, the owners were keen to explore how else its energy efficiency might be improved. I carried out a PAS 2035 retrofit assessment and modelled the potential improvements.
Since the house is listed, I also produced a separate report detailing suitable products and technologies that would not harm the heritage significance, and advising which improvements would require Listed Building Consent.
